found on a 5" plastic spool as a 15ips single track, this was unrecognised by Phil, and lay on the "Completely Unknown" page for nine years until an email from Max Nardi in January 2025 correctly identified the tape as being "My World" by Straight. I have contacted William McGuigan who has released the band's 1971 tracks as an album online. We are all indebted to Max Nardi for his help identifying this, especially as the album was never released until recently.
Straight were formed in 1970 to play at a party in Portsmouth for the cast and crew of Ken Russell’s 'The Boyfriend'. Another party followed the next weekend and Tom Powell, John Little, Mike and Andy McGuigan then moved into a flat together and wrote and recorded what was to be Straight’s only album the following year.
The band were signed by Chapter House Records and the recordings took place at various studios around London in 1971. Unfortunately Chapter House went under and the album was never fully mixed or released.
Tom Powell, the unique instigator of the adventure and mean harp player, passed away in 1998 in Brighton after a long illness, and John Lytle sadly died in 2020. John never stopped playing. Accomplished on piano and guitar he went on to play bass for Isle of Wight punk crew The Pumphouse Gang. Mike McGuigan continues to play bass at various venues in the Portsmouth area. Andy McGuigan continues to play and write songs in Brighton.
